Church Life
Mick & Veronica
We were a non-Christian family. In common with many couples our concentration was on coping with life, and .bringing up our children. Working at demanding jobs left us with no time for such fripperies as going to church or discussing deeper questions of religion or our place in the greater scheme of things. So our life together followed its “god-free” course, though in her quieter moments Veronica was beginning to feel that there was something missing in her life. Then our daughter became a Christian and upset our complacency. From the discussions that followed Veronica sought out an Alpha Course, which she attended here at Ampthill Baptist Church, and found what was missing – Jesus. From that time on her life was changed.
It was then Mick’s turn, though somewhat more reluctantly and slowly in his case. A number of Alpha courses, in depth discussions, but mostly the examples of Christian life within the congregation at ABC eventually allowed Mick to find his way to God.
Our new-found faith, shared in common, has both strengthened our marriage and given us a sense of purpose so that we can work together in developing our spiritual life.
Carole and Patrick.
Our journey to Christ started February 06. We had recently moved to Ampthill. While on a short break in Norfolk we saw a banner advertising an Alpha Course, talked about it, said yes - maybe? A few days later an Alpha leaflet came through the door - guess what, an Alpha course was due to start at Ampthill Baptist Church, which was virtually next door to us - well what a coincidence ? One cold February night we went along to the Church not really knowing what to expect as neither of us were Churchgoers. However we were warmly greeted and made very welcome, and loved it. Each week we learnt more and more about the Bible and God. We both very much wanted to go further and experience a real relationship with God through Jesus Christ. With myself it happened in of all places the shower, a sort of explosion, feelings of great inner joy and love. I fell on my knees and gave thanks to this wonderful God. Now with Patrick it came slower and much quieter, but then he is a quieter temperament, and God, I believe, suits the individual. How have we changed ? - we feel there is now a meaning to life. We love having God in our lives; we love working for God through the Church, meeting at our home with friends from the Church, praying and studying the Bible together. At the moment we are helping out at an Alpha Course in Church, hopefully helping to bring other people closer to God. We are both still on a journey and loving every minute.
