Visit of Pastor Darron Edwards
ABC was delighted to welcome Pastor Darron Edwards for the weekend. He was in the UK to take part in the Celebration of African-American Preaching at Regent's Baptist College, Oxford. Pastor Darron is the Senior Pastor at United Believers Community Church in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. On Sunday morning Pastor Darron preached for us on the theme "You can make it through this valley" (Psalm 23:4), prayed with and for the congregation and took part in a question and answer all age spot with Pastor Ken Argent. His sermon will be available from the ABC Sermon resource on this website. Pastor Darron also came along to Songs of Praise at Katherine's Gardens which was led by Ian Horsler. It was good to hear more from him about his home church and he again led us in prayer and read from the Bible. This was a wonderful visit for ABC and a time of real encouragement to us. We hope to have ongoing links with Pastor Darron and his church.

Stephen Plummer leaves ABC after 15 years
ABC said sad farewells to Stephen Plummer as he left ABC after 15 years as Pastor. He has moved with his wife Carole to the Isle of Wight where Stephen is taking up the Pastorate at Colwell Baptist Church, Freshwater. During the service we celebrated Stephen's time with us and prayed for him and Carole in their new church and home. The Church family presented gifts to Stephen of a video camera, binoculars, a stereo microscope and framed copy of the photograph below and a card signed by lots of people.

Liz and Dave Coulson visit our twin Church in Shefaamr
Church Secretary Liz Coulson and her husband Dave visited Israel and as part of their trip spent a few days with members of our twin church at Shefaamr. Liz and Dave were with the congregation at Shefaamr while Samme, Nader and Noura from Shefaamr were with us in Ampthill. Liz and Dave were overwhelmed with the hospitality and thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Ashraf, Monther and Zina and making new friends too.

ABC Celebrates being 213
As part of the celebrations for our 213th Anniversary, we were extremely pleased to be able to welcome Nigel G Wright, Principal of Spurgeon's Theological College to speak at our morning and evening services. Ampthill Baptist Church was founded in 1797 by a group from Maulden Baptist Church. We are indebted to them for their vision as we continue to serve God in this community.

At the end of November, Ampthill Baptist Church was thrilled to welcome three people from our twin church in Shefaamr, northern Israel. Two Church Deacons, Sammer and Nader along with Nader's wife Noura spent a week with us. At the same time, two of ABC's congregation Liz and Dave Coulson were visiting Shefaamr Baptist Church. There are more pictures over at our Shefaamr page.

Goodbye to Dilys
At the start of October Ampthill Baptist Church said farewell to Dilys Chapman (centre of picture), who has moved back to her home town of Aberdare, South Wales. Dilys was a long-standing and much loved member of our congregation and we will miss her terribly. We will continue to uphold her in prayer and wish her well as she settles into life in Aberdare.

Ampthill Baptist Church launches Fellowship Praise
Building of the format of our very successful monthly Fellowship Lunches, Ampthill Baptist Church has added a new monthly main gathering - Fellowship Praise. This weekday service held once a month starts with a light lunch and is then followed by a short service which encompasses readings, prayers, hymns and songs. After the service there is a time of fellowship over a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Fellowship Lunches have regularly attracts over seventy people and it's hoped that Fellowship Praise will attract similar numbers.

EcoFestival
Ampthill Baptist Church held its very first EcoFestival on Sunday 20th June. The sun shone and over 200 people visited the church to hear speakers from Water Aid, World Vision and A Rocha, see demonstrations on recycling and composting and chat to local organisations who are all working together to care for the planet in their own particular way. There was live music, children's activities and a very popular swap shop, where clothing, books, CD's and DVD's etc could be exchanged for free. In addition there was a treasure hunt and an opportunity to take part in a fashion show using only items bought from local charity shops or gleaned from the swap shop. You can read more about it and see more pictures over at our EcoFestival page. There are also more photos on our blog.

Youth Weekend Away
There's nothing as much fun as going away with your friends for the weekend, and the Chellington Centre north west of Bedford was the setting for ABC's very first House Party, attended by 17 of our young people. The weekend was led by our Associate Pastor Martin Cockerill and his wife Clare and assisted by several of our Youth Leaders. The weekend was a varied mix of activities; with a campfire, a night walk and a talent show mixed in with quieter sessions of discussion and a time of Communion.

Some of the comments that came back from parents...
"We just wanted to thank you so much for all the work and effort that went into the weekend...They loved the place, the people leading, the food, the cake shop, the wide game, the mad team games, the talent show, the worship, the freedom and the focussed times and they all have a different best moment..."
"Just wanted to say thank you for taking our children for the weekend at Chellington. They all had an absolutely marvellous time, were completely full of it when they came home, and we're still getting stories and laughs from all the good times you had."
