Creation Care

Creation Care tip for March...
This month make a conscious effort to be praying about the issues that our world is facing. As you watch, listen to or read the news, and as you read magazines, don't rush off, but take a few minutes to bring some of these things to Jesus.

We are a partner church of A Rocha.

ABC and the Environment

At Ampthill Baptist Church we believe that we live in a wonderful world that God has asked us to look after together.

If "the earth is the Lord's and everything in it" (Psalm 24:1) then there is much to celebrate in God's creation in and around Ampthill and the world further afield. But we also have a high calling to look after what we see and use, which is increasingly important as all aspects of creation come under more and more pressure from human activity. A commitment to creation care is thoroughly underpinned by a Biblical perspective about the world and our place in it, and how to and how to pursue lifestyles in the midst of God's creation in a fair and just way.

So at ABC we are committed to focussing on three key areas relating to creation care:

  • Getting our own house in order. We have been examining our energy, water, and waste performance and are committed to monitoring and reducing these where we can, whilst continuing to grow our various ministries.

  • Spiritual development. We are promoting themed Bible study on Creation Care in our small groups, and were privileged to start the year off with a visiting preacher: Steve Hughes, the Chief Executive of A Rocha UK, the leading Christian environmental and conservation movement.

  • Getting out and about. We have helped the local Greensand Trust with practical conservation work in nearby Ampthill Park and our own pastor Stephen is running the second in a series of nature walks at Duck End Nature Reserve on Friday 12th June.  Stephen is both passionate and expert in nature conservation, being chairman of the Beds Natural History Society, and it is a delight that he can use his gifts in this way. He has also been running several similar activities for local schools.

We are committed to being a partner church with A Rocha, and are always looking for new ways to serve the local community and do our own bit better, both as a church and as individuals, to seek to nuture and nurture the environment both locally and further afield.
