Close to 5000 bottles of water were given away free on another beautiful, sunny day for Ampthill Gala Day. It's a community event put on in Ampthill Park and part of the three day Ampthill Festival weekend. In addition to giving out water and having an opportunity to talk to people and share what's going on at the church over the summer, ABC was also able to look after the many festival volunteers behind the scenes, with bacon rolls, drinks and cake.

On Sunday 29th January 2017, we welcomed Kevin Crook, head of MAF in the community, to lead our morning worship. Kevin spoke with passion and clarity about the work of Mission Aviation Fellowship in countries around the world. Using the parable of the Good Samaritan, Kevin spoke of MAF planes as the ‘donkeys’ in the parables, carrying much needed help and hope to those in the greatest of need on God’s earth. Millions of people cannot access basic medical care, clean water, schools or receive the Good News of God’s love, simply because it’s too dangerous or time-consuming to reach them. Yet MAF planes flies to the remotest of location and peoples every day, providing flights for 1,500 aid, development and mission organisations to enable them to transform lives. Kevin told us amazing, true stories: the woman who walked for 7 days to have an operation on her eye, to enable her to see her children again; the Kimyal tribe in Papua who, thanks to MAF who worked in partnership with Bible translation, recently received the new Testament in their own language. It’s a great partnership – and it is a privilege for ABC to support MAF prayerfully and financially. Kevin challenged us to listen for the call, prepared to do the ‘inconvenient’ for God, wherever he calls and places us.

People from across Ampthill gathered on Friday 4th March to mark the Women's World Day of Prayer, with a service focussing on and written by women in Cuba.
"The Christian women from Cuba gave us an invitation to learn from each generation their own gift, to put children at the centre of God’s Kingdom, and to hear Jesus’ call to be that child. We are presented with many challenges. How can we be like a child? How do we treat children?"
The service was followed by Cuban music, cakes and drinks.
A significant amount of new homes building is planned for Ampthill over 2015-2016. One evangelistic idea proposed was leaflets to new homes. A small group got together in autumn 2015 and considered how this might look. We came up with the idea of a gift in the form of a welcome box containing a new home card, biscuits, tea bags and coffee sachets, as well as information about the church, wider community information leaflet and a copy of Mark's or Luke’s gospel provided by the Bible Society.
During December 2015, 13 boxes were distributed to the new homes which had recently been occupied in the St Andrews View development. Those boxes also included invitations to our Christmas services and activities. The boxes are available to anyone in the church who wants to greet new neighbours – an opportunity for them to make contact and introduce themselves as Christians and members of ABC, ‘spreading the word’ through actions as well as words. We plan to distribute many more in 2016 as new homes are completed and occupied in Station Road, Dunstable Street and a large development close to Redborne school.

In July 2015, our Youth Worker, Martin, had the opportunity to spend 8 days in Israel, particularly to visit our friends in Shefa’amr, Galilee, home of Shefa’amr Baptist Church with whom ABC enjoy a twinning relationship. He stayed with Pastor Nader, Noura and family, and met several members of the church as his ‘tour guides’ and hosts. It was a very valuable time sharing with their youth leaders, with opportunity to talk about challenges, priorities and opportunities in youth work. Martin also took part in their Friday service, sharing greetings from ABC.
Our BMS World Mission Church Partners, Tim, Linda, Joshua and Annabelle Darby joined us at ABC over the weekend of 27th and 28th June 2015. The whole family attended the morning service on the Sunday and Tim raised awareness of the difficulties some Ugandan families face getting safe drinking water. Tim and Linda both spoke passionately on aspects of working with their local communities to improve hygiene around sanitation as well as how local legal students are encouraged to be distinctively Christian in the world of law.
