Reduce waste (and get some freebies!)

Fancy:

  • Helping your local community for free?

  • Reducing landfill and food waste?

  • Cutting your food bills?

  • Finding a fantastic freebie such as a “vicar-owned Metro car” or a “6-foot sailing boat”?

There are few downsides (environmentally or financially) to websites, apps and Facebook groups which encourage people to offload their unwanted goods to a new home for free instead of binning them or which help suppliers sell off food cheaply before they go out of date.

Of course you should also consider other charitable organisations if you’re having a clear out. Similarly, organisation such as FoodCloud connect supermarkets with charities but there are also apps for individuals too.

Here’s some organisations which can help you buy foodstuff destined for the dustbin:

  • Good to Go

  • Olio

And here’s a few giveaway platforms:

  • Bedfordshire Free

  • Flitwick and Ampthill Freegle

  • Gumtree

  • Freecycle

I haven’t personally used all of these, so always be prudent. In particular, beware any request on a giveaway platform that you pay “postage fees” or any other charge which requires you to transfer money or provide your bank account details.
